For the London Marathon, Burger King did something refreshingly simple.
They put actual marathon runners on billboards, and the timestamp on each ad was the exact time it took them to finish a Whopper.

The campaign ran across hundreds of OOH sites near bus stops and tube stations across London, timed perfectly with marathon weekend.

But the smartest detail? Finishers could walk into Burger King at Strand or Leicester Square with their medal and claim a free Whopper.
They even placed a branded pacer at the finish line to guide runners toward what they called “Mile 27.”

Burger King understood that hunger looks better when it’s real, and that’s exactly what they showed: exhausted runners, mid-collapse, eating like they hadn’t seen food in days.
